The Negroni is a cocktail made of Gin, Vermouth Rosso and Campari. It's boozy and savoury but bitter and sweet at the same time. History reports that the Negroni Gin Cocktail has been around since the 1910s, and first got really popular in the 1950s. The most widely reported origin is from a cafe called Caffe Casoni in Florence, Italy. The story is that a customer by the name of Count Camillo Negroni was at the venue and asked the bartender to strengthen his favourite cocktail - the Amerciano - by replacing soda water with gin. (An Americiano cocktail is made from Campari, Rouge Vermouth and soda water, also garnished with Orange).
And there the Negroni cocktail was born!
From us at Team Lily Fields Distilling Co - Thank you for your request Count Camillo Negroni because we love a Negroni.
Cheers, to all that is the Negroni !
If you decide to make your Negroni at home yourself, go for it !
Which Gin is best for a Negroni ? A dry Gin so either of our Sydney Dry Gin or Juniper Dry Gin is perfect. We suggest equal portions of Gin/ Campari and Rouge Vermouth - you can find a link to the recipe here.
Do note that the vermouth is like wine and will oxidise so I suggest to store it in the fridge and check it before you use it to make sure it's still Ok.
It all depends on how frequent you like to enjoy a Negroni and whether then your better off buying the ready to drink- or committing to using the full bottle of vermouth !
Either way ENJOY!
We make and bottle our Negroni ourselves at our Sydney Gin Distillery. Visit our about us page to find out more.
